First impressions matter! But how do we create that eye-catching WOW factor on a budget? Check out these ideas:

  1. Paint yourself. No, not your actual self. Your front door! You can paint the front door on your own without hiring a professional, and it can make your home look clean and fresh. What color to paint? That depends on the vibe you want! See the chart below for some ideas.

Classic Red

Inviting, welcoming, bold, energetic, confidence, a traditional feel

Navy Blue

Trust worthy, elegant, timeless, sophisticated, reliable

Charcoal or Black

Powerful, modern, sleek, minimalistic, upscale, contemporary

Sage Green

Fresh, earthy, calming, peaceful, soft, natural, blends in to the surroundings

Sunshine Yellow

Bright, cheerful, happy, creative, artistic, inviting, lighthearted

  1. Add a welcome mat. Something as simple as a new welcome mat can change the feel of your entry way.

  2. DIY flower bed borders. It’s amazing what you can find in the woods that can be repurposed to create a border for free. Try finding larger sticks, stones, or old brick remnants to give a more polished look.

  3. Flower pots from the dollar store can be used as is, or spray painted to look like stone. Add potted plants, stalks of dried corn, straw, or even fake flowers for a shady porch.

  4. Stop by your local thrift store to find outdoor stone decorations or lanterns to place around your door or on your porch steps. Mix heights and textures for a designer look.

  5. Spray the weeds. 1 gallon of vinegar, 1 cup salt, and 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap makes a cheap and effective weed spray. Be careful! This will kill any plant it touches.

  6. Add pine straw to flower beds. Pine needles are a cheaper alternative to mulch or rock. Another option is to get wood chips from a local tree service. Some companies will give them away for free. Before laying it, lay down newspaper or cardboard for weed control.

  7. Want all greenery in your flower beds? Plant fast-growing ground cover plants like clover or creeping thyme. If you want it to look great before the plants have covered the area, mix seeds in with the mulch.

  8. Add solar lights to your walking paths. They’re inexpensive and easy to install. Space them out evenly for a polished look.

  9. Create your own flower bed mushrooms using upside down cups and bowls, painted to look the part. These are super cheap and affordable to make.
